JERUSALEM (JTA) — Several thousand Israelis protested Israel’s operation in Gaza at a demonstration in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square.

The demonstration was held Saturday night after police determined that the extension of a humanitarian cease-fire with Hamas until midnight would hold and prevent rocket attacks in the area. While the demonstration did take place, it was cut short by police after Hamas resumed rocket attacks, raising concerns for the safety of the demonstrators.

Protesters called for an end to the Gaza operation and a resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

A right-wing counter-demonstration was held in the same venue, with hundreds of police officers on the scene to prevent clashes. Four right-wing protesters were arrested.
