JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas called on Hezbollah in Lebanon to open a northern front in the conflict with Israel.

Deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau Moussa Abu Marzouk told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti that “Lebanese resistance could mean a lot.”

“We hope the Lebanese front will open, and together we will fight against this formation [Israel],” Marzouk said.

Last week, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said his organization will do all it can to help the Palestinians in their fight against Israel.

In the interview, Marzouk also thanked Qatar and Turkey for their diplomatic and economic support of the Gazan Palestinians.
