(JTA) — A 5-year-old Palestinian boy was killed in an explosion in Gaza.

Suhayb Saqir was killed Thursday night and his brother Musab, 6, was seriously injured in an explosion caused by ammunition they found in the Jabaliya area north of Gaza City, the Maan news agency reported. The report did not say whether the ammunition belonged to Israel or Hamas, the militant group that controls the coastal strip.

Over 7,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance were left throughout the Gaza Strip following the 2014 round of hostilities between Israel and Palestinian militant groups, according to officials of the U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories.

Last year, an explosion near Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip ended with the death of four men from one extended family. Palestinian officials said the men from the Abu Naqeira family died from unexploded Israeli ordnance while clearing the ruins of their home, which reportedly was hit by Israeli fire.
