Benjamin Netanyahu was faced with loud boos and cheers as he took his seat at the hit broadway show ‘Hamilton’ with his wife on Saturday night, according to JTA. The Prime Minister, who was accompanied by heavy security and secret service, was ambushed with “Free Palestine” slurs by two women, who were escorted out of the theater, they said.
Liz Hoffman, a Wall Street Journal reporter, who also attended the show described Netanyahu’s security as “guys who very much look like Mossad,” in a tweet.
“The show started late because of his arrival — the heightened security slowed down seating,” said a theatergoer, reported Page Six of The Post. “But he still entered and sat down before the lights went down, so everyone was focused on him. There was a lot of applause when he walked in, but definitely a few loud boos.”
Another theatergoer also tweeted complaining about the Prime Minister’s tightened security on Saturday night at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York.
Netanyahu’s busy trip to New York for the United Nation’s Assembly included a meeting with President Obama on Wednesday, a U.N. speech on Thursday, and a meeting with John Kerry on Friday.
Just in time for the debate, Netanyahu also met with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss both of their stances on Israel, said the Daily Mail UK. Trump reportedly explained to Netanyahu how the use of fences to secure Israel’s borders could be beneficial, while Clinton promised to deal closely with Israel while proposing the Iran nuclear deal, they reported.
“Both of them talked about their support of Israel, and the importance of the ties between the two countries.” said Netanyahu after his meetings with both candidates, according to The Jerusalem Post. “It doesn't matter which of them will be elected, the support for Israel will remain strong, the alliance will remain strong, and will even get stronger in the coming years.”
