Ten collectible items from Shlomo Carlebach’s collection were auctioned off this week including the late composers piano, which brought in the highest bid of $20k.
A J. Greenstein & Co.’s, a Long Island auction house held an auction for Carlebach’s personal items including a piano, kiddush cups, menorahs and photos, on Tuesday. The 10 items were given to auction house by the late singer's ex-wife and daughter.
“It is not often that two worlds of admiration come together so harmoniously,” Jonathan Greenstein, President of the auction house said in the statement. “Jewish ritual collectibles have been a love of mine since childhood, and I have admired Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, too, since high school when I was first introduced to his music, which I continue to listen to today.”

The auction had 20 in-store bidders at the Cedarhurst gallery, as well as 200 online and phone bidders. The auction made over $30,000 which will be donated to the Shlomo Carlebach Foundation, Carlebach's daughter said in February. The auction, which was originally scheduled for earlier in the year was postponed until the auction house and Carlebrach family "resolve unspecified differences."
