WASHINGTON (JTA) — The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is aiming to raise another $50,000 to translate more Holocaust diaries into English.
The Kickstarter campaign announced Wednesday has a deadline of July 13.
The Washington, D.C., museum said it had exceeded its goal of $250,000 in a monthlong campaign launched last month to translate its collection of over 200 diaries with the help of over 4,500 donors. The new goal will help translate and catalogue 10 more diaries.
“The backers of this campaign are helping to make the voices of the survivors and victims of the Holocaust heard,” said Dana Weinstein, the museum’s director of membership. “In a time of increasing anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, this project couldn’t be more urgent, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming response.”
The campaign can be followed on social media under the hashtag #SaveTheirStories.
The original drive was launched on June 12 to commemorate the birthday of renowned diarist Anne Frank.
