Demolition of structures in West Bank Palestinian village postponed

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The demolition of part of a Palestinian village in the West Bank was delayed by an order from the Prime Minister’s Office.

About half of Khirbet Susiya, near Hebron, was scheduled to be razed Tuesday before the postponement on Monday evening.

The order comes amid international pressure, including a letter sent in January signed by 300 U.S. Jewish clergy calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to destroy the buildings, which were deemed to have been constructed illegally.

Some critics have linked the postponement to an upcoming visit over the weekend by White House special adviser Jared Kushner and Mideast peace envoy Jason Greenblatt.

Homes and mobile structures in two Israeli outposts were razed in the last week.
