The Jewish Week today won four Simon Rockower Awards, given by the American Jewish Press Association for “Excellence in Jewish Journalism,” at the annual AJPA conference in Cleveland.
The paper received two first-place awards: for a news article by editor Gary Rosenblatt on an admission of sexual abuse by Robert Fisher, a onetime official in the Conservative movement’s United Synagogue Youth organization; and for a personal essay by freelance writer Yehudis Fletcher about sexual abuse she had suffered; it was written for the publication’s JOFA Blog.
Second-place awards were given to staff writer Hannah Dreyfus in the health care category for an article about for the Jewish community’s increasing openness about mental health disorders; and to art director Dan Bocchino, digital art director Charles Rosenthal and managing editor Robert Goldblum, in the special sections or supplements category, for the paper’s 2017 Kosher Wine Guide.
