Last week, five Hadassah Academic College (HAC) students from the Departments of Inclusive Industrial Design and Photographic Communication volunteered at Jerusalem’s Ilanot School to decorate and improve the school’s entrance. Ilanot is a special-needs school that caters for students with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and other muscular diseases. Students range in ages from 6-21 and include Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Earlier in the week, students volunteered at schools around west Jerusalem to prepare Chanukah celebrations.  This included working with primary-age school children at “Shema Jerusalem”, the city’s educational center for deaf and hearing impaired children, and at the Yad Hamoreh School for special needs children.

Hadassah Academic College is in the heart of Jerusalem known especially for its diverse student population. Its students volunteer a minimum of two hours a week at a wide variety of Jerusalem non-profit community organizations and institutions throughout the course of the year.  Many of the volunteer opportunities involve acting as “big brothers & sisters” to help primary and secondary school children with their homework and project assignments.
