Conjuring the Old World in a Time of Great Change

The new show “Impressions of Eastern Europe: Prints from the Permanent Collection,” at the Derfner Judaica Museum, features lithographs, etchings, engravings and woodcuts by 16 artists working in the early-to mid-20th century. At a time of rapid change, as Jews were pulled out of a traditional lifestyle, their genre scenes and folktale illustrations harken nostalgically back to an earlier era.
