Katsav threatens police

Israeli President Moshe Katsav threatened to sue police officers involved in his sexual misconduct investigation. A lawyer for Katsav, who faces indictment for rape and other felonies, said Thursday that his client could sue investigators that he believes prejudiced the Israeli public against him by leaking details of the probe. Katsav denies any wrongdoing in the scandal, which erupted last year with a television report followed by a series of media exposes. Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter, who oversees the police, said Katsav’s claims were unfounded. “The investigation of the president was conducted by the Israel Police with reverence. They walked on tiptoes when interrogating him, out of respect for the office of the president and for the president himself,” Dichter told Army Radio.
