(JTA) — Swastikas and other anti-Semitic graffiti were painted in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn that recently has seen several anti-Semitic incidents.
Swastikas and the words "Die Jews" were painted on a driveway in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn on Saturday night. Swastikas also were painted on a nearby apartment building. On Sunday morning, swastikas were found painted nearby on the Yeshiva of Brooklyn building.
Other recent anti-Semitic incidents in Midwood include a subway sign changed to read "Avenue Jew" and the torching and scrawling of graffiti of several Jewish-owned cars, which is now being investigated as an insurance scam.
State Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) said in a statement that with the anti-Semitic incidents, "people are justifiably very concerned and upset."
"I am calling on the NYPD to use every resource available to apprehend the person(s) responsible for these heinous acts so that people in the community can once again have peace of mind,” he said.
The attacks come on the heels of the firebombing of a rabbi’s synagogue residence in Rutherford, N.J., and other anti-Semitic attacks in northern New Jersey’s Bergen County.
