JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, was elected as one of the vice presidents of the 67th United Nations General Assembly.
Prosor was elected last Friday as one of 20 vice presidents for the upcoming session, which begins Sept. 18.
Only Abba Eban in 1952 and Danny Gillerman in 2005 have been so honored, according to reports.
Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic will serve as president of the session, which is likely to see another unilateral bid for statehood by the Palestinians, as well as deal with the unrest in Syria and Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program.
