Netanyahu offers freeze for recognition

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would reinstate a West Bank construction freeze if the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

A Knesset committee has approved a bill that would require a referendum on any Israeli government decision to give up territory.

Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer was named the central bank governor of the year.
