Among the Jewish material damaged were 95 Torah scrolls – only three of which could be saved; 15,000 books, only 8,000 of which could be saved, as well as hundreds of ritual objects, furnishings and textiles.
The meeting focused on international concerns including Islamic terrorism and the Iran nuclear deal, and on bilateral agreements between Israel and Italy.
Representatives of the Jewish and Muslim communities in Florence, Italy, along with the city’s mayor appealed for interfaith respect and dialogue at “this dramatic moment of Middle East conflict.”
