Corporal Louis Abend, of 2619 Pitkin Ave., Brooklyn, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry under fire. The official War Department announcement is as follows:
“Corporal Abend, attached to the Company M. of the 28th Infantry, First Division, displayed extraordinary heroism in action by assuming command of his platoon after all officers had been killed and later repulsing two counter attacks by the enemy”.
