Zaki Hadef, a Sephardic Jew, has been appointed temporary Mayor of Tiberias, filling the office vacated by the removal of the former Mayor Hunseini Zaravi who was accused of having abused his office.

The Jewish community in Tiberias, which constitutes the majority of the town’s population is hopeful of having the office of Mayor permanently occupied by a Jew.
