Cleveland (Jun. 23)
The Cleveland delegates to the Democratic Convention, including Newton D. Baker and Congressman Charles Mooney, voided their opposition to race discrimination before leaving for New York.
Former Secretary of War Baker stated: “I am not in favor of writing race and religious discrimination into our immigration laws.” Similar statements were made by Mooney and the other members of the delegation. It is believed that Baker and the delegation will make definite efforts to insert a plank in the platform condemning race or religious repjudice in immigration and all other laws.
