The first large group of Jewish farmer immigrants arrived here on the S. S. “Albert Ballin”. They were permitted to land, with the purpose of proceeding to Texas, California and Arizona to engage in farming there.

These Jewish farmer immigrants come from Bessarabia, Poland and Russia. They bring certificates from their governments, showing that they engaged in farming there. 25 were taken to the Hias building before leaving for the West.
