How the Marquis of Reading met David Lloyd George, former Prime Minister of Great Britain in a linguistic encounter was related by the Marquis at a public meeting here recently.
The Marquis stated that once, at a dinner, Mr. Lloyd George addressed him in Welsh. Without having understood the former Prime Minister, the Marquis responded immediately in what the audience believed to be Welsh also. What he was actually speaking, however, was Hebrew.
“I recited a Psalm in Hebrew,” the Marquis explained, “but the dinner guests believed it was genuine Welsh.”
