Is a Bible passage subject to the rulings of state censorship.

This interesting question has developed into a controversy between the management of the Globe Theatre and the state censor.

The censor prohibited the reading of a passage from the 39th chapter of Genesis dealing with the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife. The manager of the play, “Potipliar’s Wife,” wanted to have the passage read from the stage. Following the prohibition of the censor, the theatre management asked permission to print the passage in the program.
