An appeal for aid for the Samaritans at Nablus who suffered in the recent earthquake was issued by the high priest of the ancient Jewish sect.
The appeal is addressed to all communities and states that £1000 would suffice to aid the Samaritans who suffered in the earthquake.
PUBLICATION OF TWO BOOKS BY UNION IS ANNOUNCED
Through the Department of Synagogue and School Extension of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations announcement was made of the forthcoming publication of two books. The first of these is a pupil’s book by Rabbi Jacob D. Schwarz, called “Into the Promised Land,” representing the third book in the series of Bible Readers in Bible words. The second is a syllabus by Professor Abraham L. Sauhar on “Modern Jewish History.”
Two new Sisterhoods have been affiliated with the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, making the total membership in the Federation 337 Sisterhoods. The new Sisterhoods are in Flint, Michigan, and Mt. Vernon, New York.
The Graves-Klan Press Muzzling bill was killed by adjournment of the Alabama Senate just as its passage in the House seemed certain after three hours’ debate.
The bill, classed by its opponents as one of the most drastic and far-reaching measures ever submitted to the Legislature, was offered by Klan sympathizers following the crusade of the press against the mask.
Adjournment of the Senate was taken after the House had voted, 55 to 41. against indefinite postponement of the measure.
The bill proposed to give cities, counties and the State a right of action for any liberious matter published and circulated within their respective borders, with the public treasury behind the prosecution of any such cases.
