London (Mar. 29)
“Transjordania’s independence according to the new agreement is very limited,” writes the London “Times” in an editorial today. “Abdullah accepts British advice on all foreign relations, public finances and legislation. Britain may maintain troops in Transjordania.
“Transjordania,” the paper continues, “therefore has the status, actually though not legally, equivalent to a protectorate, the only difference being the status of Great Britain, because whereas a mandate is provisional, the present relationship is permanent.”
