Passover was celebrated by Palestine Jewry in an atmosphere of greater hope for further progress in the up building work when the announcement was made by the Zionist Executive on the eve of the festival that the dole system will be abolished. The payment of doles to unemployed Jewish workers will be discontinued on April 23.

There were about 3,000 Jewish unemployed in Tel Aviv. The relief will be substituted by the inauguration of public works.

The abolition of the dole system was made possible, it was declared by the Executive in its announcement, by the assistance given to the Executive by two American Jews, Nathan Straus and Felix M. Warburg, who contributed $50,000 each towards the necessary funds. All unemployed workers will be absorbed in the new enterprises which will also include public works to be undertaken by the Government.
