The reunion of the Spanish – American War Veterans brought to Havana about one hundred and fifty Jewish veterans, many of them occupying important positions in the organization. Mayor Leon Swartz of Mobile, a district commander, was among the visiting veterans.

A special service was held for the veterans by the United Hebrew Congregation and Rabbi Krueger pledged that the congregation will observe Maine Day and will mention at the memorial services in the temple those men who died on the Maine and those who died for the liberation of Cuba.

The United Hebrew Congregation Centro Macabeo, of which Mauricio Schechter is president and Rabbi N. B. Krueger, rabbi, was the recipient of letters from President Gerrado Machoda of Cuba and the Governor of the Province of Havana, expressing cordial good wishes to the Jews in Cuba, on the occasion of the New Year festival. An exhibit of tropical fruits was held in the Succah of the congregation.
