An ordinance published several days ago by the Palestine government, depriving the population of Tel Aviv of its right to choose its own mayor, is the foremost question in the first Jewish city in Palestine today.
The ordinance declares that henceforth the mayor and vice-mayor of Tel Aviv are not to be chosen by the popular municipal vote, but are to be appointed. At its session today, the Municipal Council adopted a strong protest against the ordinance and decided to send a delegation to the High Commissioner, demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance.
