Abraham Simon, active in Jewish communal affairs in this city, died here at the age of 67. Mr. Simon came to Cleveland from Lithuania 41 years ago. He was one of the organizers of the Cleveland Zionist District and was known for his contributions to Jewish educational undertakings.
The Tower Club, the first officially sanctioned Jewish organization on the campus, has been authorized at Brown University, with the understanding that it is non-sectarian in membership requirements and formed for social purposes.
Despite the absence in its rules of any provision barring non-Jewish students from joining, the club has a selective system of electing members and in this regard is similar to a fraternity. For this reason, according to a belief prevalent on the campus, it may develop into a university fraternity for Jewish students at Brown.
Whether, in the light of previous rulings against the establishment of so-called sectarian fraternities, authorities at Brown would continue to sanction the existence of the Tower Club as a strictly Jewish fraternity, is not yet known. Tower Club leaders stated.
