The largest part of the Austrian press continues to publish articles expressing indignation over the conviction of Philip Halsmann on the charge of patricide, and his sentence by the Innsbruck Court to four years’ imprisonment.
Newspapers repeat the opinion prevalent among the Jewish population and the Liberal press, that anti-Jewish prejudice in Innsbruck, known as the center of anti-Semitism, was responsible for the sentence.
Many of the papers compare the case of the young Jewish boy to that of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, declaring that human right was insulted by the judgment of the Innsbruck Court. Surprise that intervention with government heads had not brought any results, was voiced by the papers.
The unveiling of the gravestone on the grave of the elder Halsmann took place last week. Philip Halsmann was not permitted to be present.
