That Arab villagers are concealing stores of firearms was disclosed in a demand by police superintendent Lamont of Hebron to the neighboring village of Betah that it surrender 20 military rifles. The possession of the weapons was learned as the result of a quarrel between two clans of the Arabs. When the villagers denied having the rifles Lamont came to the village and warned that he would bring 50 British soldiers and raid the village.
