The Women’s League for Palestine closed the third year of its activities with a New-Member luncheon at the Hotel Astor on Wednesday. “The object of this organization,” explained Mrs. Rose Blumenthal, president of the League, “is to provide a home in Haifa for the working women and girls, to contain dormitories, a kitchen, social hall and library.” A notable gift this year was a parcel of land, from Baron Edmond de Rothschild, of the Hadar Hacarmel, valued at $10,000. A prominent architect has been engaged to draw up plans and specifications, which are already on their way. It is hoped that within a few months, fifty girls will be provided with a home.
Mrs. Jerome Trier, president of the Young Folk’s League of the Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, was the next speaker and Mrs. Richard Gottheil, Honorary President, gave the parting message. The League, after an existence of only three years, has thirteen groups organized in different communities in Greater New York, with a membership of nearly 1,000 and an active and thriving Junior group. It also has on hand $25,000 with which to begin building.
