Irving Fineman has been awarded the $7,500 Longmans Green & Company prize for his first novel, “This Pure Young Man,” which was chosen from some 1,000 manuscripts submitted in the competition. The book will be published, probably in September.

Mr. Fineman, who is a civil engineer, and who has been on the engineering faculty of the University of Illinois, is in his early thirties. He has traveled extensively and two years ago spent some time in Palestine and Roumania, investigating conditions of the Jews, which resulted in several articles published by the “Menorah Journal” and the “New Palestine.”

At present Mr. Fineman is in France where he is working on his new novel, which is on a Jewish theme.
