Moscow (Jun. 27)
Indications that the Comzet, government department for settling the Jews on the land, is retreating from its plans to establish a Jewish republic in Bira Bidjan, Far Eastern Republic, are seen in a decision taken today by the Comzet to transfer 325,000 roubles assigned to Bira Bidjan to Crimea. Further reductions in the Bira Bidjan budget were considered and a commission to take action on it was appointed.
It was also decided that starting this Fall the Comzet will discontinue financing Jewish colonization in the Cherson, Krivorog and Melitipol districts of White Russia. While the Jews in these regions are somewhat concerned at this action it will not affect the colonization activities of the Agro-Joint, the Ort or the Jewish Colonization Association.
