The late Louis Marshall was characterized as “a heroic figure in Israel” by the Rev. Nathan Krass in a sermon delivered in Temple Emanu-El on Sunday morning, December 15. Dr. Krass paid tribute to Mr. Marshall on the occasion of the seventy-fourth birthday of the Jewish leader, which fell on Sunday. Mr. Marshall was at one time president of Temple Emanu-El.

The significance of the Chanukah festival was also discussed by Rabbi Krass during his sermon. Speaking of the victory of the Maccabeans over the Syrians and their strong opposition to evil and oppression, Dr. Krass said that each age, each religion and philosophy had to wrestle with the problem of suffering.
