Laymen and rabbis representing Conservative Jewish groups and congregations in nearly a score of communities throughout the state, at a special conference in the local Y.M.-Y.W.H.A. Building last night decided to immediately launch a drive for 1,000 new members in New Jersey for the United Synagogue of America.

Abraham Rocker of Elizabeth was unanimously chosen temporary chairman of the state-wide membership effort. All rabbis affiliated with Conservative congregations will serve as honorary vice-chairmen.
