Following the recent suspension of the Jewish tennis champion Daniel Prenn, preventing him from playing in the present Davis Cup games in London, the Committee of the German Sports Federation, which has its seat in Munich, has disqualified the Berlin Jewish Sports Club Bar Kochba from competing in the running matches in England, although the Bar Kochba running team is considered to be one of the finest in the country. The reason given for the disqualification originally was that the Bar Kochba had applied for registration to compete in the matches after the expiry of the time limit, but when pressed, the Committee agreed that there were other reasons concerned with German sport which made it impossible for the Bar Kochba to go to England. The real reason, it is suggested in many athletic quarters, is that the Sports Federation is afraid of a Jewish team carrying off the German honours.
