The Central Board of the All-German Federation of Actors has issued the following statement, protesting against the adoption of the Nazi resolution in the Prussian Diet on Sunday night that no Jews should be employed as actors or in any other capacity in the Prussian State Theatres.
This Federation condemns the growing movement to introduce extraneous questions which have nothing whatever to do with artistic considerations in casting and selecting plays. We regard this movement as entirely contrary to the artistic interests of the German theatre. We protest against religion or political beliefs being made the test in engaging actors. In art the only thing to be considered is the artistic ability of the artist, and the only question that should be considered in engaging an actor is whether he will do justice to the part.
The Conference of the All-German Actors’ Federation, which is opening here to-day, is also taking up the question in a resolution, declaring that questions of race or belief must not enter into the engagement of actors or producers, because the only consideration should be the artistic ability of the artist.
