Severe punishment will be meted out to those who persist in agitating for a boycott against Jewish book-sellers, declares an official communique issued by the Polish government last night.
At the same time the authorities make known that they will adopt stringent measures to suppress the boycott propaganda.
The action of the government follows increased boycott propaganda undertaken in particular by the anti-Semitic National Democratic party in connection with the opening of the school term.
Last week the agitation against the Jews led to street clashes.
The “Gazeta Warszawska” was confiscated last night for criticizing the communique of the government. The paper is the organ of the National Democratic Party and has been virulent in its attacks upon the Jews.
Six boycott agitators have been arrested and face the possibility of serving two years in prison.
