Congressman William Sirovich, returning on the Italian liner, Conte Di Savoia, after a lengthy trip through Europe and the Near East, yesterday predicted a European war in the near future in which Germany, under the mad leadership of Hitler, would be dismembered, with the southern half of Germany, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurtemberg, together with Austria, forming a new state which would act as a buffer against the militarist aggression of Northern, Protestant Germany.
Congressman Sirovich praised in enthusiastic language the achievements of the Jews in Palestine, particularly in Tel Aviv. “Why,” he exclaimed, “when I saw that great Jewish city, I could hardly believe that only a few years ago, ten at the most, there was nothing there but sand and emptiness.”
Dr. Sirovich, long an opponent of the Soviet regime, returned praising the Russian Soviets for their accomplishments and urged immediate and unconditional recognition of the Soviet government. When asked about the condition of the Jews in the Soviet Union, the Congressman declared that it was impossible to recognize a Jew, to pick him out from the other citizens. The Jew, he stated, had complete freedom in Russia.
