An irreverent story repeated by the Reverend Henry Smith Leiper, at the Lord Marley dinner, was heartily applauded by the 600 guests present. “When I see a lot of clergymen gathered together it makes me think of a lot of fertilizer; spread very thinly it does much good, collectively in a pile it is a public nuisance.”

The gathering was astonished to learn from Lord Marley that, while France was freely admitting the refugee children to her public schools, England was denying publie educational facilities because it would cost the British taxpayer the equivalent of &2.00 for every child. The number of refugees in England is insignificant compared to those in France. However, if attention were properly called to this deplorable matter British fairness would unquestionably not permit this condition to continue.

The contradicting views pretive of the variety of conflicting opinions help by those who ensented by the speakers were indicadeavor to oppose Hitlerism. “Don’t let us counter hatred by hatred” Heywood Brown. “I am heartily in favor of the boycott”-Professor John Dewey. “We abhor what #nspired in Germany but we are in favor of equality for Germany” Rev. Henry Smith Leiper.

Karl Bronnem, well-known National Socialist writer, is the son of a Jewish teacher. He got himself in the good graces of the Hitlerites by claiming to be an illegitimate offspring. His father, a converted Jew, was a professor at a Vienese gymnasium, a playwright and a teacher of German literature. The Racial Ministry. I understant, is flooded with petitions of aspirants to Aryanism, who do not hesitate to besmirch the memories of their mothers. Thus the foulest possible deed is encouraged by a premium. I understad, however, that many of his Aryan colleagues are fighting shy of Bronnen despite his newly acquired Aryanism.

The audience was particularly moved by this story told by Lord Marley. In one of the primary schools in Germany a Jewish child was called to the front of the room by the teacher, and the Aryan pupils were asked to describe the racial features of the girl. One of them pointed to the black heair, another to the curved nose, a third to the round head, etc., but the teacher was not satisfied. She kept asking “Don’t you notice anything else?” and, when the class remained silent and at a loss, finally said “Don’t you notice the sneaky, secretive, lying eyes of the Jewish girl? The eyes of a thief.” Blushing to her temples the Jewish girl returned to her bench humiliated beyond words.

Lord Marley rightly pointed out that the degradation to which Jewish children are exposed is in flicting the same terrible wounds on the sensibilities of the young.

A long line of men and women was slowly advancing toward the general distribution counter of the Emergengy Relief station in the Bronx. Eggs, butter and pork were being given out. A little old woman with a wrinkled face stood in the line.

She reached the counter at last Bread, eggs, butter she quickly accepted. When the pork dole was landed to her, she shrank back and timorously asked:

“Maybe you could make it a little veal instead, please, mister?”
