SEATTLE (Mar. 27)
–The story of the daring of a young Jewish polar explorer was related here when two Soviet aviators and a geographer passed through Seattle on their way to the rescue of the survivors of the Russian ice-breaker Cheliuskin.
The hero is Boris Mogilewitch, 26, who died while saving ninety-six lives above the Arctic circle. After transferring the sinking ship’s supplies and radio to an ice floe, he, the last man, attempted to leave, but was unable to land safely.
