Dr. Franz Oppenheimer, noted writer, sociologist, economist and life-long Zionist, will celebrate his seventieth birthday here tomorrow.
Dr. Oppenheimer was born in Berlin on March 30, 1864. He studied in German Schools and received his medical degree at the University of Berlin. After some years of practice in Berlin as a private physician, he became interested in economics and sociology, and wrote on those subjects. He is the author of a score of books. He also edited the Berlin newspaper Die Welt am Montag for several years and taught at the universities of Frankfurt and Berlin.
Dr. Oppenheimer has been an active participant in the Zionist movement from the time of Dr. Herzl. He was a delegate to several World Zionist Congresses, including the third, sixth and ninth. He was also selected to make the principal addresses at Zionist Congresses.
Dr. Oppenheimer was one of the founders of the famous Bezalel School in Jerusalem and visited Palestine on several occasions. In 1914 he toured the United States in the interests of Palestine cooperative groups.
