Elka Listau of Wiskitki, seventy-year-old Jewish woman who in 1905 saved Marshal Pilsudski from Russian gendarmes who were searching for him, has been granted a pension by the Polish statesman.
When Russian officials discovered that Elka and her husband had shielded Pilsudski, the couple were exiled to Siberia, where Elka’s husband, Sender Listau, died.
