Jewish storekeepers here have warned the circulation manager of one of the local papers that they will discontinue carrying his daily if it persisted in publishing reports of activities of the Friends of New Germany in this community.
The Friends have tried, without noticeable success, to arouse the preponderantly German population of College Point. Since anti-Semitism is practically unknown in this section of the North Shore, local newspapers featured the Friends’ attempts.
Jewish leaders objected, pointing out that the Nazis sought publicity. The local rabbi characterized them as “a group of misguided youths.”
The Friends are getting little notice in the two local dailies now.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
