Criminal libel charges are contained in a summons served on William L. McLaughlin, editor of the English supplement of the Deutsche Zeitung, during a recess in the Congressional Committee hearings late yesterday.

Former Magistrate Joseph Goldstein of Brooklyn is the complainant. The case will come before the First District Court of Brooklyn this morning.

In an editorial on June 29 McLaughlin demanded Goldstein’s disbarment on the ground that the ex-magistrate had defended several youths in a rape case.
