I am now engaged in writing a book on “Jewish Autonomy in Russia, 1800 to 1850.” I make use, among other sources, of community records (pinkasim). I beg, therefore, all societies, rabbis and private persons who possess manuscripts of town or society records which were brought from Russia to please communicate with me. Parts of these records will be printed with due thanks and acknowledgements to their owners. The value of such truly Jewish source material is of tremendous importance to the historian and must be saved from being lost by being printed.
