Leopold Lowenstein, eighty-three, believed to have been a former sheriff of St. Louis, Mo., committed suicide here yesterday. Mr. Lowenstein, who was popular here, had been ill for some time.
He was a prominent Freemason, probably the oldest in Palestine. He also organized the only Knights of Pythias lodge in the Holy Land. He is survived by sons in New York and Cleveland.
