Five eighteen-year-old youths who were arrested at Nowy Dwor several months ago for attacking Jews in the streets and stoning Jewish houses were sentenced to six months in prison each on a charge of disturbing the peace.
On the night the arrests were made a number of soldiers attacked several young Jews strolling through the streets. The Jews fought in self-defence and routed the soldiers. When these had returned to their barracks, bands of “labor legionaries” roamed the streets, attacking all Jews they came upon and smashing the windows of Jewish homes and stores.
Six of the rioters were arrested by police and held until the trial today, four months later. Since sentence included the term already spent in prison, the five youths sentenced would have had but two months to serve. But the court suspended sentence for two years. The sixth accused was freed.
