NAZI SLOGAN

German National Jews, who make a show of supporting the Nazi regime, were holding a meeting under the chairmanship of Fuehrer Naumann. They are reported to have shouted enthusiastically: “Down with us! Down with us!”

HAM OVER RUSSIA

The food shortage under the Soviets is responsible for the richest crop of wisecracks. One of these represents a little Russian boy addressing his father:

“Papa,” he says, “why don’t Jews eat ham?”

The father replies bitterly:

“And we Christians—do we eat ham?”

Bikkurim was the name of a Hebrew annual which appeared in Vienna in 1864 and 1865. It was edited and published by Naphtali Keller.
