Governor Lehman is Sworn in

and former Governor Alfred E. Smith, at whose insistence Governor Lehman first entered public life, was present.

For the first time since 1913 a Democratic Governor will have a Legislature controlled in both branches by a majority of his own party. In November Governor Lehman was re-elected by a plurality of more than 800,000.

In his inaugural address the Governor pledged his administration to carry on in the progressive tradition of the days of former Governors Smith and Roosevelt.

Actually Governor Lehman entered upon his second term last midnight. To fill in the interregnum he was sworn in at the Executive Mansion last night in the presence of his family, personal friends and members of his Cabinet.
