When one considers the French #yrian offer in the light of the history of the past few decades there appear to be several flies in the #intment.
Most of the land offered is in dangerously unhealthy proximity to the Syrian-Turkish border that the subject of perennial disputes. The scene of the proposed drain#ge project of the Lake of Antioch was also the setting for the expulsion of the Armenians in the Forty Days of Musa Dagh.” Another region mentioned in the negotiations is Deir-et-Zoir, where hundreds of thousands of Armenians perished from starvation.
It would surely be the scene of a possible war involving the rejuvenated Turkish nation.

RACIAL QUOTAS
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
Your edition of December 31st, 1934, contained a notice dealing with lectures delivered by Mr. Max D. Steuer, attorney and Dr. S. J. Kopetzky at Temple B’nai Jeshurun upholding race quotas in law and medicine. Mr. Max D. Steuer endeavored to sugar-coat his recommendation by applying the quota to all nationalities and not only to the Jewish student.
The writer has given the subject matter serious thought and deliberation and can see no justification to a numerus clausus as to how many Jews, Catholics or Protestants shall be given permission to matriculate in our American universities.
A numerus clausus or quota system has as its base, racial prejudice, any other reason advanced for its promulgation is insincere and camouflage and when men of the Jewish race who have become successful in their respective calling recommend a numerus clausus for admission to our universities then it is high time, to raise our voices in protest.
American democracy as prescribed by the founders of this country, never tolerated quota systems or racial discrimination against educational ambition and a desire to serve in any profession. The United States has attained its place in world’s affairs solely through its liberal policy of not curbing intellectual growth and scientific employment.
Our democratic form of government has made it possible for members of the Jewish race to rank amongst the leaders in law and medical professions.
Is it therefore not of the utmost importance that our leaders in law, medicine and other sciences be chosen from the best material obtainable, irrespective of any racial consideration whatsoever and that they be given every possible opportunity to develop their talent. I told that the adoption of a quota system for admission to our universities is contrary to our American ideals of fair play?

LABORITE FUND DRIVE
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
I see from the Jewish Daily Bulletin that Mr. Z. Rubashov, the Palestine labor leader, is now in America conducting a campaign to raise funds for the laborites in Palestine.
I wonder why this campaign is necessary new, when there is no unemployment in Palestine and when the labor organization there the plenty of reserve capital. I should like to know why the labor organizations in Palestine have sent funds to non-Jewish Austrian Socialists. Are the American Jews contributing for Palestine in order that their money should go for Austrian Socialists? It is for this purpose that Mr. Rubashov has come to America to raise new funds? A full explanation in your paper would be of interest to many readers who would not like to see Jewish money flowing out of Palestine for non-Jewish purposes.

REBUKES HISTADRUTH ON J.T.A.
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
I was amazed to read in the Bulletin of last Monday that the Histadruth utilizes its control over the Palestine Executive to act against the principles of freedom of the press.
The leaders of the Histadruth are probably not aware of the importance of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to the Jewish nation, otherwise they would understand that Jewish leaders, Zionists as well as non-Zionists, will not permit the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to be used as a tool in the hands of one party only.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency has rooted itself in Jewish life as an important institution linking up the Jewries in the different parts of the world and helping to fight for Jewish rights. In these hard years which the Jews are facing in different countries, any efforts to hamper the work of the JTA should be considered a crime against the Jewish nation as a whole.

THE MOVIE CRUSADE
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
Dr. Stephen S. Wise, with his incomparable talent for raising his voice at the wrong time, has conjured up the bogey of an anti-Semitic movement as a concomitant of the clean movie crusade. The headlines in the Jewish press, such as “Warns Jews Clean Movie Campaign Will Turn Into Anti-Semitic Crusade” if it does not actually give Christians ideas they never had before will at least contribute toward keeping Jews out of the clean movie campaign. The Jews should have begun this clean movie crusade and not left this highly important social movement to be started by the Catholic Church.
The Catholic and Protestant churches have been scrupulously decent and fair about this whole sorry movie mess and so far as I know the bogey of anti-Semitism has not been raised in a single case. The ones who have raised this bogey are Jews such as Dr. Wise and one or two of the movie people who hope thus to keep the Jews out of the campaign. One of the greatest injustices which we can do to our Christian fellow citizens is to accuse them of false motives in this campaign. Moreover, they appreciate to the utmost the fact that Jewish organizations, both religious and secular have taken part in this campaign from the beginning.
For this reason it is astonishing that the Jewish Daily Bulletin will give space to attacks on the movie campaign by such writers as Eugene Lyons who are wise cracking liberals without the faculty of knowing where liberalism stops. It is people of that sort who have put liberalism into such disrepute. Liberalism and chaos are two different things entirely. Never let it be said that the Jews are indifferent to decency and wholesomeness in films or anything else.

GERMAN ZIONIST PROTESTS
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
As a German Jew and Zionist I wish to express my protest against the efforts of the Histadruth in Palestine to undermine the work of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
I know the important work which the J.T.A. does is not limited to Palestine only. This is what the Histadruth leaders seem to forget. The larger Jewish communities are, after all, situated outside of Palestine. The leaders of the Jewish communities in Europe ought to back the J.T.A. definitely against the dictatorial attempts of the Histadruth.
Coming from Germany I can only say that the J.T.A. did a tremendous piece of work last year in the interests of German Jews, by reporting the true facts from Berlin, before the very eyes of the Hitler government. It was through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the world received a good deal of information on the anti-Jewish persecutions in Germany. The service of the J.T.A. for German Jewry is highly acknowledged by all who know how difficult it is now for the Jews in Germany to let their voice be heard abroad.

JUDGE KLEIN NOT THE FIRST

In your issue of December 25th, you stated that Hon. Charles Klein, who has just been appointed associate judge of the Orphans Court, at Philadelphia, is the first Jew in the history of Pennsylvania to occupy a position in the Pennsylvania Orphans Court.
This is erroneous, as the late Josiah Cohen was a judge of the Orphans Court in this city from 1901 to 1902. Later Judge Cohen became a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of this county, which position he occupied for many years until his death in 1930.

NEWS NOT SURPRISING
To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
The news which the Jewish Daily Bulletin brought us last Monday morning about the establishment of a Zionist news service imposed by the Histadruth leaders in the Executive should not occasion any surprise to those who follow the developments in the Zionist movement and the role of the Histadruth.
This is just another link in the chain of imposing the Histadruth monopoly on the Yishuv as well as on the whole of Jewry. This is just another attempt on the part of the Histadruth to extend its dictatorial rule.
The J.T.A. which presents the news in a very impartial and unbiased manner could not be to the liking of the Histadruth machine which is ruthlessly pursuing and imposing its partisan interests on the Zionist movement.
To my mind the issue is not private versus public controlled enterprise. The Histadruth does not care for principles, and its policy has very little in common with social justice as stated in your editorial of January 2. The issue to the Histadruth is how to unite and regiment all forces to the subservience of their cause, to follow the dictates of their machine.
Let it be known to all that the Histadruth does not represent the Zionist movement and it does not serve the interests of Jewry. The Histadruth usurped power in the Zionist executive.
I am sure that the next Zionist Congress will not endorse the present policy of the Executive in establishing its own news service.
The next Zionist Congress will overthrow the hegemony and dictatorship of the Histadruth. And a new Zionist executive will be formed representing all factions in the Zionist movement and will serve the interests of the whole of Jewry.

Good work, J.T.A., in your refusal to accede to rule by certain members of the Jewish Agency.
Today, more than ever, do we need news, impartial, concerning the whole of Jewry. Palestine is but a fraction of World Jewry.
Let us remember there are more than 15,000,000 Jews throughout the world, many of them suffering, impartial news of whom is essential.
